Orza for ScottishPower customers

Your ScottishPower tariff, planned into your battery every half hour.

ScottishPower has no way for other apps to read your account, so you enter your tariff from a bill, once. Orza then plans your battery around it every half hour, including the cheaper evenings and nights of Solar Saver.

Adding ScottishPower

Your tariff from a bill, entered once.

ScottishPower doesn’t give customers a key for other apps, so Orza can’t read your account. Setup asks for the few numbers it needs instead, and you change them in Settings if your prices change.

  1. Choose ScottishPowerIn setup’s Supplier step, after your battery is connected.
  2. Pick your tariff’s shapeOne rate if your price is the same all day. Economy 7, a day rate and a night rate, if your tariff has cheaper hours: 19:00 to 09:00 on Solar Saver, 00:00 to 05:00 on EV Saver.
  3. Enter the ratesIn pence per kWh, from your latest bill or the ScottishPower app, and the standing charge if you like. Then what you’re paid for export, or 0.
  4. Bring in your meter’s past, if you likeFirst make sure you’ve opted in to half-hourly readings with ScottishPower. Then sign in to Bright, the free smart meter app, in setup’s Usage history step, and your past half-hourly readings come in.
ScottishPower tariffs

What Orza plans around on ScottishPower.

Setup takes one rate, or a day rate and a cheaper night rate with its hours. That covers the ScottishPower tariffs a home with a battery is most likely to be on.

  • Solar SaverFor ScottishPower customers with solar panels: a lower rate from 19:00 to 09:00 every day. Choose Economy 7 in setup and set the night hours to 19:00 to 09:00, and the plan fills the battery in the cheaper hours with what the day needs after your sun, then runs the house from it and the sun from 09:00 to 19:00.
  • EV SaverFor homes with an electric car and a home charger: cheaper electricity from 00:00 to 05:00. ScottishPower keeps these hours on GMT, and on some older SMETS1 meters they move to 01:00 to 06:00 while the clocks are forward. If yours does, change the night hours in Settings when the clocks change.
  • EV OptimiseScottishPower’s add-on for smart charging an electric car is a credit for the car’s charging, not a cheaper rate for the house, so the plan works from your home tariff.
  • One rate, fixed or variableThe same price all day. With no cheaper hours to fill from, the plan’s work is your sun: storing what the house can’t use yet, and running the evening from it.
  • Economy 7A day rate and a night rate on a two-rate meter. Enter the night hours on your bill, and the plan fills the battery in them.
  • ExportSmartGen is open to anyone, SmartGen Premium pays more if ScottishPower supplies your electricity, and SmartGen Premium Plus is for homes whose panels or battery ScottishPower installed. Enter the rate, and the plan weighs every kWh against what you would be paid for it.

What Orza does with it

A plan for the next 36 hours, remade every half hour.

Orza works out a schedule for your battery: when it should charge, hold its charge and run the house, across every half hour it can see at once. Each decision comes with the reason beside it, priced at your own tariff, and Savings shows what the plan would have cost against what your battery really did.

What the plan is made from

  • Your ScottishPower tariffThe rates and hours you enter, the same every day until you change them in Settings.
  • Your homeHow much it uses and when, learned from your battery’s own readings, and from your meter’s past if you bring it in through Bright.
  • Your roof’s sunWhat your roof really made at the same times over the last few days, checked against the forecast.
  • Your battery’s lossesEvery kWh that goes through the battery loses a little on the way. The plan pays for that loss, so it only moves energy through the battery when the price difference covers it.

Yes. Every half hour Orza works out how much to fill the battery between 19:00 and 09:00 and when to run the house from it, from the forecast for your roof and how your home uses power.
