Your British Gas tariff, planned into your battery every half hour.
British Gas has no way for other apps to read your account, so you enter your tariff from a bill, once. Orza then plans your battery around it every half hour, and on Charge Power, the British Gas tariff for homes with a battery, it works out the battery’s routine for you.
Your tariff from a bill, entered once.
British Gas doesn’t give customers a key for other apps, so Orza can’t read your account. Setup asks for the few numbers it needs instead, and you change them in Settings if your prices change.
- Choose British GasIn setup’s Supplier step, after your battery is connected.
- Pick your tariff’s shapeOne rate if your price is the same all day. Economy 7, a day rate and a night rate, if your tariff has cheaper hours: on Charge Power and EV Power they are 00:00 to 05:00.
- Enter the ratesIn pence per kWh, from your latest bill or the British Gas app, and the standing charge if you like. Then what you’re paid for export, or 0.
- Bring in your meter’s past, if you likeSign in to Bright, the free smart meter app, in setup’s Usage history step, and your past half-hourly readings come in.
What Orza plans around on British Gas.
Setup takes one rate, or a day rate and a cheaper night rate with its hours. That covers the British Gas tariffs a home with a battery is most likely to be on.
- Charge PowerThe British Gas tariff for homes with a battery, of any make: cheaper electricity from 00:00 to 05:00, and you set the battery’s routine yourself. Orza works it out: it fills the battery in those five hours with what tomorrow needs after your sun, and runs the house from it through the day.
- EV PowerFor homes with an electric car: cheaper electricity for the whole home from 00:00 to 05:00. Enter it the same way, and the plan fills the battery in those hours too.
- One rate, fixed or variableThe same price all day. With no cheaper hours to fill from, the plan’s work is your sun: storing what the house can’t use yet, and running the evening from it.
- Economy 7A day rate and a night rate on a two-rate meter. Enter the night hours on your bill, and the plan fills the battery in them.
- ExportBritish Gas pays for export on Export Premium if it also supplies your electricity, or Export SEG if it doesn’t, and both pay for power sent from a battery. Enter the rate, and the plan weighs every kWh against what you would be paid for it.

A plan for the next 36 hours, remade every half hour.
Orza works out a schedule for your battery: when it should charge, hold its charge and run the house, across every half hour it can see at once. Each decision comes with the reason beside it, priced at your own tariff, and Savings shows what the plan would have cost against what your battery really did.
See the app, page by pageWhat the plan is made from
- Your British Gas tariffThe rates and hours you enter, the same every day until you change them in Settings.
- Your homeHow much it uses and when, learned from your battery’s own readings, and from your meter’s past if you bring it in through Bright.
- Your roof’s sunWhat your roof really made at the same times over the last few days, checked against the forecast.
- Your battery’s lossesEvery kWh that goes through the battery loses a little on the way. The plan pays for that loss, so it only moves energy through the battery when the price difference covers it.
Before you add your British Gas tariff.
The short answers. The technical FAQ covers how the connection works, how the plan is built and how the saving is scored.
Read the technical FAQIs Orza a smart scheduler for Charge Power?
Yes. Charge Power leaves the battery’s routine to you, and Orza works one out every half hour: how much to fill between 00:00 and 05:00, and when to run the house from the battery, from the forecast for your roof and how your home uses power.
Why can’t Orza read my British Gas account?
British Gas has no way for other apps to read a customer’s account. Octopus is the only supplier that gives customers a key for that, so for British Gas you enter the tariff yourself, once.
I have an electric car too. Does Orza charge it?
No. Orza plans your home battery, not the car. On EV Power the cheaper hours are for the whole home, so the battery fills in them alongside the car.
What do I do when my prices change?
Change them in Settings. The plan uses the new prices from then on.
What does it cost?
Orza costs nothing during the beta, and no card is needed to join. Your tariff stays between you and British Gas.
